The Wilderness

Hosea 2:14

Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably until her.

When our lives are filled with ease and we have what we want, our incredible tendency is to turn away from the one who gave everything to us. We were designed to be one with God. To live any other way, is find a nagging ache that can never be satisfied. If you are brought low in life, it is to bring you to God, who will allure you, give you His love, and speak kindly unto you. Don’t forget the wilderness was dark, dry, it had no life, all it represented was death, ache, decay, and pain. Yet God said he was going to allure them there. He just wanted them to listen, to trust Him. to look to Him, but what He really desired was to talk one on one with them. (some of the wording in this first paragraph was in context of

I feel at times we don’t make the time to talk or even listen to God, and when we give up on trying to find that time He finds that time for us. The best way to do that is to lead us into the wilderness where there aren’t any distractions. It’s just you and Him. There’s purpose when you look up to Him, when you come to a point in your life where you just feel hopeless, lost, confused, hurt, and even alone sometimes. What’s it going to take for you to find that time for God, to talk and listen for once? We’re so caught up in going about our lives, doing what we do best, or doing what we think is best.

I’d like to relate the wilderness to our brokenness, it’s a place where we learn to heal, a place to find strength again in our own weakness. To hold on once we get a hold of the one whose promises remain true and faithful. It’s a place where we realize darkness has no authority over us, it never has and it never will. Being in the wilderness gives us the opportunity to destroy the things that destroy us at the end of every day, whether it’d be depression, loneliness, anger, resentment, jealousy, envy, relationships, and the list could go on and on. The darkness reveals the things hidden within ourselves that we didn’t even know were there, they’re the very things that tare us down. When God wants to build us back up, the wilderness is where we’re placed, it’s when we’ve reached our lowest in life. He brings us to this place where the only thing we can do is give it all to Him, it’s where He holds us to remind us that we’re His and that we’re going to be okay. He holds you as the tears begin to fall, and this is where strength begins to bloom.

In 1 Thessalonians 5:17 says….

Pray without ceasing.

Our prayer is just as important as our brokenness, they require attention and action. Prayer should be part of our daily lives, it’s that intimacy God craves from us. Again, if you can’t find the time for Him, then He’ll find the time for you (so be prepared).

It’s in our weakness and our temptations that we believe (quote from: The Newsboys).
